ABOUT THE ARTIST
Krista Makela is a self taught woodworker of 8 years. She has sold over 3000 of her original artworks since 2016, and put "Wood Slat Art" on the map.

Inspired by light, and pared down formations, Krista has always had an eye for the roughed in structures of items, inspired by the understanding that without the right form, great design cannot exist. She sees beauty in the minimal elements of architecture, and sees in her everyday life the importance that light gives to our seeing and understanding beauty. Everything at Blank Space is formed from these two concepts, Light Refraction and Functional Form.

Krista specializes in Wood Structures, Mache', Plaster, Wood Shaping, Concrete, Resin, and Paint, with some Metal Fab and machining work. She has made custom artworks up to 30 ft in length, and custom designed value engineered items for hotels in large quantities.

At home, Krista is a mother and homeschooling five children ages 9-2 years of age. She is happily married to her husband of 11 years, where they enjoy hiking, nature, the outdoors, architecture, building, and renovations.

Krista has thought deeply over the past years on the existence of art in our created world. She has come to the conclusion that Art in its right form is a form of appreciation and wonder for God and all that our Father in Heaven has created for us. She is deeply moved by evidence of Him found in each child she carries, hike she takes, and land formation she has the gift to see. Through her travels, she has seen the living breathing works of art made by her Creator, and many of the formations you see in her artwork are vague impressions that don't even come close to the real, living, breathing beauty around us. Much more than artwork, creation is awesome in its real sense to look at and live in. Our God has made such beauty, so intricate that it gives life, creates oxygen for us to breathe, calms our senses, and above all made neighbors and family for us to love. If you have stumbled across this page, and happen to also be searching, know there is a God who loves you, enough that you are here living and breathing, and if you seek Him in all truth, you will find Everlasting life in his son, Jesus Christ.

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. PSALM 19:1
